Wadup wadup guys!! How’ve y’all been? It’s been a while, I know.
Life keeps happening even when you make decisions and plans. And nobody actually told us adulthood would be filled with a whole lot of responsibilities and hurdles but we move! We not just survive but we thrive, that’s right!.

On that note lemme introduce to you my sister, yeah my very own sister. She’s an English Language student and she also writes. I for one haven’t seen a lot of her write-ups but this particular one is good. She shares about her experience, a very recent one. I’m sure you’ll learn one or two from her cuz I sure did! Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce to you, Okeke Oluwafunto Peace. Have a nice read!

Hey guys, I’ll be writing about  DISTRACTION. How to handle distraction so it doesn’t interfere with your everyday life and work.

Firstly, what is distraction, or what does it mean to be distracted?
What are the causes of distraction?
How do you handle/get rid of distractions?

Distraction is a thing that prevents one from concentrating on the main event. It could also be an extreme agitation of the mind.
Different things cause distractions to us either at our place of work, school, church, seminar, etc.
According to Wikipedia, Distractions can come from both external and internal sources.
External distractions include factors such as visual triggers, social interactions, music, text messages, and phone calls.
Internal distractions are hunger, fatigue, illness, worrying, and daydreaming. Both internal and external forces contribute to the interference that hampers focus.

According to Philosopher Damon Young, ‘’Distraction is chiefly an inability to identify, attend to or attain what is valuable, even when we are hardworking or content’’
I know you must be wondering why I’m discussing Distraction. Well, I was distracted at work and I lost my job!
Nobody deserves to lose their job to distraction and I really do not want that for my foes or friends, that shit can weigh you down!

My lovelies, no matter what you’re facing never bring your personal issues to your workplace. It not only affects you, but it also tells on your job and every member of your team. It hinders productivity. Trust me the result is not always nice!
I brought my personal issue to work, in fact, I was in deep thought while working I ended up doing the wrong thing which eventually cost me my job.

I was emotionally unstable; filled with anger, and I let these emotions come in the way of my work. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to justify myself, I’m simply writing this so people can learn, and avoid the mistake I made.
Although I got a second chance, not everybody gets second chances. I got my job back, but I had put the company at risk and it still haunts me.
In the words of my boss, “Whatever problems you have, drop it at the entrance of the office, after the day’s work, on your way out, pick it up and go to your house with it!”

No problem deserves to deprive you of your happiness, the irony is we never stop having problems. We are always faced with one difficulty or the other. These things are part of life. Never let them bring you down. Never!
Put enough effort into keeping your private life separate from your work life, inevitably one may begin to run into the other. However, learn how to keep personal issues from negatively affecting your job and career.

My beautiful people, I’m pleading, regardless of what you’re encountering, trust me, there’s always a way. Yes, it might take a while. But, there’s always a way.
Before you find a way, do not permit this problem, don’t allow it to ruin you or get the best of you. Please!!!
